It would be excellent to be able to export quicktime from a set, since using screen recorders is sloppy and loses frames. Video-instrumentalism has a lot to offer traditional motion graphics. I can control some stuff in Apple Motion via midi, but there's nothing like the range of goodies available in VDMX.

I am mapping the video to the object with vdmx.

This projected video i capture with snapz so that i can burn it to a dvd so
that i dont have to have my laptop hooked up to the projector.

not exactly sure what you are doing. are you capturing a DVD using snapz pro, then reburning it to dvd? If so a better way would be to use Mac-The-Ripper and Toast to simply copy the thing.

Or are you running a DVD through an input in VDMX (presumably with a capture device of some sort. What kind?) and then mapping that?

Also if you are out puting to video you might need to try to click the Overscan option in your display preferences. Good luck!!!

Hi all

I work for a band and what we do is use 3 identical DVD players output to 3 x projectors onto 3 screens. I then trigger the footage by remote at the appropriate time.

We want to take it to computer based. Would your product do what I want with a MacBook and, say, a Matrox Triplehead2go?

I basically want to be able to preview live on the mac and then send out to the projectors on cue.

Is this possible?

Thanks in advance.

Hey,

I am wanting to map a video which should run over a DVD player. But I am having problems with the scaling.

Projecting over the laptop, using Quad_Warp.qtz (works briliant).
Vdmx Output: 720 x 576, Second Screen: 800 x 600

Capturing the Output with Snaps Pro X, here i set the preset that it should record a
video of 720 x 576 ( this should be the best because of projecting a video dvd,
right?)
I have selected the resolution of 800 x 600 because this comes nearest to the
recording resolution of Snapz.

But when burning the DVD with Adobe Encore, and inserting it in a DVD player the movie is not in place.

I have tried to set the resolution of snapz to the full scrren and adjusting it with the mouse. It gets a bit better but still is quite a bit off.

In the Presets I have been using the Canvas Presentation: Fit.

It is a pain trying to adjust it with the zoom and tweaking the beamer so that it kind of looks fine.

i am wanting to do this on saturday so I would be greatful for any ideas or recommandations and help.

Talk to the developers :: RE: Rendering a texture as 'actual pixels' (1:1) on the canvas?

Subject: Re: Rendering a texture as 'actual pixels' (1:1) on the canv
Posted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:09 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 1

Related requests, for improving the compositing powers of VDMX:

- The Layer Window's xScale and yScale sliders should optionally size the source relative to itself, where 1x means 1:1 pixel mapping to the canvas. Currently I must size the source relative to the output. That screws up content that benefits from an integral scaling factor: lowrez styles, line art, pattern fills, moires, space invaders, prerendered antialiased type, etc.

- I'd like to have the option to denominate the Layer Window's xPos and yPos sliders in canvas pixels and/or source pixels. That helps guarantee pixel alignment.

- xScale/yScale should really have the option to lock the aspect ratio. This is another standard feature in raster graphics editors. I know I can carefully click one slider and then shift-click the next to lock the two sliders, but as soon as I click anything else, the lock goes away. And of course that trick doesn't help if I want a non-uniform aspect ratio, since it forces xPos=yPos.

- We still desperately need a command to snap the main output to the default canvas dimensions.

- The VDMX fullscreen options should include the option to center the canvas (with 1:1 pixel mapping) on the output device, in the specified dimensions. If my target device is 720p but I am composing my show on my laptop (1440x900), I can't actually achieve 16:9 1280x720 centered and pixel-aligned on my laptop's screen just by entering fullscreen mode. This is because the output modes are 'fit', 'fill', and 'stretch' -- sound familiar? 'Center with actual pixels' is missing again. Instead I must manually set the main output window to 720p using a focusing grid as my source, and then drag the window onto my laptop screen. Infuriating!

- The main output window's current dimensions should show up in its header. That would at least let me size my main output window to the intended size (or a multiple thereof) without resorting to a focusing grid source texture.

(Hey, I don't mean to give you guys a hard time. You know I file all these grumpy feature requests because I love this program, and I want it to achieve perfection.)

Subject: Rendering a texture as 'actual pixels' (1:1) on the canvas?
Posted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 7:52 pm (GMT 0)
Topic Replies: 1

'Fit', 'fill', and 'stretch' modes are not quite enough. How do I tell my source textures to lay down on the canvas in a 1:1 pixel perfect grid? I need it to behave like 'View->Actual Pixels' in Photoshop.

In many gigs I work with crisp, pre-rendered vector graphics, including typography, wireframe renderings, wireframe animations, carefully sharpened photos, moire effects, pattern fills etc.

In all of these cases, it is crucial to render these items to the canvas without resampling, at a 1:1 pixel ratio between the source image and the canvas. We all know that resampling wrecks the crisp edges in vector art, just as it undoes all the hard work that goes into the final resizing and sharpening of photographs. Of course, high resolution moires and pattern fills show all kinds of artifacts when resampled.

My source images are either still images or movies. Sometimes they are somewhat larger than the canvas, and sometimes they are much smaller. A typical motion graphics effect might involve scrolling, multiplying, or spinning these textures using an LFO or a midi knob. Using this technique I derive high resolution motion from simple, still source layers, and I don't always have to pre-render motion graphics as resource-hogging movies. This is especially nice for scrolling backgrounds, titles, etc. I just use a single pre-rendered frame and let VDMX and OpenGL animate its position.

There's one problem: I only see 'fit', 'fill', and 'stretch' resize modes, all of which compulsively resize any source image that is bigger or smaller than the canvas. I can try to resize it using the sliders, but it's practically impossible to make VDMX pixel-align the source at 1:1 after it's been fit or filled. This makes certain types of content unusable in VDMX if the source is larger or smaller than the canvas, because I'll always see resampling artifacts, and it squanders my efforts to polish source images down to the pixel level.

The simplest case is neither fit, nor fill, nor stretch -- it's 'actual pixels', with pixel alignment to the canvas. This is the fundamental viewing mode in raster graphics editors, so I must be missing something. How do I do it?

For the record, my VDMX prefs are set only to downsize images larger than 4000px, and I don't force my media bin textures to render at a fixed canvas size. The main canvas size is 720p, and before I start working, I laboriously resize the main output window to match my intended canvas size.

Please help. My pattern fills thank you in advance.

Use the Multiplexer!!! I believe you'll have to create a dedicated midi control for the midi cross fader for it to show up in the multiplexer options

If you are running your clips from an SSD, then the bottleneck IS NOT the files or the SSD drive. the only reason your system drive would be thrashing would be if its swapping out virtual memory -- you should max it out or at least 4GB. I'm now running my system and VDMX from one SSD and clips on a 2nd SSD with 4GB ram and I can't get it to slow down!

Topic Replies: 10

Thought this is worthy of mentioning, you can also do the operation in two steps.. first:

Record the live input to a movie, with the option to immediately assign to the media bin.

Then trigger the movie and scratch to your discontent.

its not quite a 'realtime' buffer, but it gives you more powerful options for controlling the buffer than using video delay (playback rate / in out points etc etc) and should be pretty fast to capture a performer and manipulate.

Question 1
Can I add multiple clocks to sync to different waveforms?
One for the beat?
One for the bass-line?

Question 2
I would like to be able to link and unlink the waveform data source at the touch of a button. I can:
link the two channel mixer to a midi cross fader
link the two channel mixer to a waveform with beat detection.

Figured out how to activate sync detection button by right clicking on the crossfader and adding the Sync button, but when I unsync it, it will not go back to the midi cotrollers cross fader. How can I make it goto the midi controller cross fader when I un sync it?

Question 3

Is it possible to have the same video track on different pages in the media bin without loading the track two times into memory? Possible to make a shortcut link to another page for that track?

What I'd really like to know now is why I can't see any of the openEmu controller inputs in the layer controls in vdmx. I'm pretty sure they are published, but instead I just see the ram glitching sliders etc... no left right up down ba start. It would be super extra cool to control glitchNes with a wiimote inside vdmx. Or with MSA remote! [/i]

I'll attatch a screenshot(s) when I get home from work.[/quote]

If you did not publish them with an input splitter, it wont work. make sure you double up reading on the VDMX -> QC integration notes, as VDMX has some special cases where you have to do things in a particular way.
