Testing VDMX...

Postby _blank » Thu May 08, 2008 12:05 pm

One of my firsts tests with VDMX [+ Quartz Composer + Ableton] It's something quite minimal and simple. Any kind of comment, good or bad, is welcome :)

Nice!

Is it Audio Spectrum to Size of square or is it sending velocity info via Midi?

Hi _blank,

Very nice minimal music, too. Amazing what you can do with a click, some filters and a delay!

I was just checking out your QTZ stuff on Vimeo earlier. Very nice line-based things. I love the waterfall one particularly. I sense a Queue patch is involved there somewhere...

It is just audio analysis, I don't know how to use midi! But I will learn some day or another :)

Everybody thinks that in the music there are filters and delays, but in fact there are not. All was done copying and pasting very short notes.

And... I don't know what video is the 'waterfall' one, but I have nerver use a Queue patch!

Thanks for the comments!

Hi _blank,

hmm... so I was wrong on both counts then....
Heehee.

There's always more than one way of doing the same thing!

The one I called the 'Waterfall one' is Nihil06, which I think looks like a stream of water. Very nice, anyway. I'm intrigued to know how you did it now though. Any clues?

It is really, really simple... The original file from quartz composer is a pattern of diagonal lines, without movement, just a still image. The rest is Modul8, just some animation, a patch transformer and sound reaction. Audio analysis in Modul8 is really basic, it just detects sound level, so in this case it only affects a little to scale and color

Ah.. OK.
I'd assumed you'd done the whole thing in Quartz Composer.

Cheers for the info.
