VDMX+QC used in big Clueso Live Tour

Postby koerk » Sat Apr 14, 2012 8:05 am

VDMX waf definitely a good choice for this job for a lot of reasons.
Especially handling the maskings for everyday changing venues, having presets for every song.
This year I wanna focusing more by syncing VDMX to the GrandMA lighting console .. were I shure will need the help of this forum ;)

Hey koerk,

Looking good!

We added support for receiving DMX over Artnet in the newest update so you should be set for slaving any bits of VDMX to a GrandMA. Definitely let us know how it goes!

I'm glad you like it! :)

One day I tried it via Kineme Art-Net-tools and it worked just from the Start.
But good to know thats its integrated now, I will check it out and let you know.

cheers,
Dirk

Looks really good and I'm happy to see VDMX being used on such a big tour.
Can I ask you a technical question?

I liked a lot how you used those simple shapes in the beginning of the video - I use a lot of these things as well. The way you used it makes it look very three dimensional. It seems to me this works so well because you're projecting on the musicians as well. Later it looks like you don't project on them - how did you do that? Masking? Rear AND front projection?

Lovely design! Looks like you had a front scrim for some of the show as well? Thats a hard sell to most bands. Kudos.

Ive been trying to get MA Lighting to add OSC in & out for years now. Make sure to tell them how much you'd like it as well, every voice helps. When they ask "why would you want that?" point out integration with their powerful macro scripting, something you definitely can not easily achieve with DMX.

Hey Thomase,

its all front projection from the FOH. Which was sometimes very hard to fight against the Haze.
When the Band is very lighten up from the MovienLights, you will not see the Projectionlight on them, because the MovingLights are much brighter.
You are only be able to see the ProjectionLight on them when the Stage is Dark.
Also I used at some songs a simple Mask. A fade to black at the Bottom. This also helped a lot.
At some songs we used (as XedMada mentioned) a scrim.
Most of the rehearsal was trying to never let the StageLight hit the Screens... It would had killed everything.

I hope this was helpful.
