hu -
I had vade's v002 optical plug-in installed...
and his demo qtz patch opened up fine in QC...

havent managed to convert that to a VDMX patch yet... only get halfway through the vidvox wiki instructions for adding a splitter... when i get lost, or there are too many ways i can interpret the instructions, with the options available in QC, and so far hit and miss isn't working out for me..

i think i need to go back a step and do some QC 101 stuff..

but anyways, i'd figured your patch would go in the QCFX folder, and work as an effect to select...

but hasnt shown up so far...

eHllo -
i was just about to write back and say, yep, that's where it is with all my other FX...
but in fact it was in the overall folder, not the qcFX folder...

sorry! my mistake.. thanks for your help..

and its a lovely effect on silhouettey clips... with say wet/dry blend set to min or max, and 50%...

the 'apply freexe' button seems to jar the app for a while once clicked, but once it makes it to the other side, seems to perform ok..

thanks again : ) ( and to VADE for porting the optical flowers~! )

Yup - the 'apply freeze' is for some reason is a bit naughty.
I was trying to achieve it with sampling and queue objects but both were causing serious troubles when not updating..
If anyone has idea why was that happening, would be great to hear about this.

This is for you!! It's a fire ball with a nice burning flame. I also want to get george toledo water effect.

Let's see if water extinguishes the fire. jeje ;)

how do I turn the files into effects?

Postby tecnoloca » Mon May 18, 2009 4:06 am

This thread has been a lifesaver for me tonight! I've been dealing with black qcfx for some time, and I finally figured it out thanks to all your posts.

How do I take on Vade's homework assignment and turn the glitch files into qcfx?
I have never really used Quartz Composer but have been following tutorials because of vmdx. Thanks y'all!

Hey tecnoloca (and others looking for 'qc/vdmx 101' tuts on publishing inputs),

Two video tutorials that deal with this subject are this one (http://www.shakinda.com/index.php?page=18&News_ID=36) by Shakinda, and this one (http://www.hybridvisuals.nl/tutorials/quartz-composervdmx-tutorial-3-qc-feedback-effect/) by myself.

Although they don't deal with Vade's plugins directly, you could apply the same workflow to any input you want to publish.

Let me know if you need further help with anything specific.

Good luck

Joris

Is there a simple step I am missing?

Im assuming you are discussing the Rutt Etra effect? You must be on OS X 10.5.

Do you have any errors in QC log? Did you install the v002 Blurs along side the Rutt Etra? Did you make sure plugins go into /Library/Graphics/Quartz Composer Plugins/ ?

qcFX go into the VDMX folder, in ~/Application Support/VDMX/qcFX, and nothing should be in the VDMX plugin folder.

I know, its somewhat complicated but, it should work. What kind of machine are you on? Can you open the included example comp?

Postby tecnoloca » Mon May 18, 2009 5:38 pm

thanks for the replies.

I get this error from vdmx when I try to load other qcfx i have downloaded from this site http://b-l-a-c-k-o-p.com/Qamera/Quartz-Composer/

"This Quartz Composer composition can't be loaded because it contains a video input object- please remove the input from the patch and try again."

I get the same message when I put them in the media bin.

On another subject, does anyone know where to download qc patches to use in the media bin? objects such as lines or spheres?

One day I know I'll be able to make my own :)

thank yoU!

hey tecnoloca,

the thing is that qc patches need to be prepared for use in vdmx. what you have downloaded from blackop are effects for use in quartz composer directly, not qcfx for use in vdmx.

to get layer fx to work in vdmx, one of the things they need is an image input splitter labeled 'inputImage' which would replace the video input object that's causing the trouble. you can check my video tutorial (url above) for more info on publishing this image input. i don't know if you have quartz composer installed, but it's just a matter of a minute's work. i could post the adapted patch, but i don't feel comfortable modifying their work and making it public. you can of course always ask or pm me for help.

http://vdmx.memo.tv has several qc clips for use in the media bin. especially alx toneburst has some really cool glsl supershapes. spheres are ridiculously simple to make, you can check my first video tutorial on making a bouncing ball (http://www.hybridvisuals.nl/tutorials/vdmxqc-tutorial-no-1-the-bouncing-ball/)on how to do it.

good luck,

joris

ps

maybe it's a good idea to move this discussion to its own thread, as it's not really related to vade's plugins anymore ;-)

(memo) has several qc clips for use in the media bin.

seconded, memo's stuff is excellent both for using and learning from - top guy.

I also put up my very first particle patch a while back for use in vdmx you can download it at http://tinyurl.com/cz8t9y for use, fun and to inspire. Drop it in the media bin.
And I was about to say it is a doddle to make until I remembered just how many tutorials, tips, hints I had followed from shakinda/memo/vade/goto/the vdmx wikki and many, many more and off the forum generally :-)
I might presume to do a tut from a beginners perspective on making it though... hmmm
