Dr.B, you have to install all the stuff, not just use the plug-in in vdmx. the graphics plug-in has to go in the correct place too. It took me a try or two and then i just slapped my head

Dr. B, what's your machine and graphics card? what version of VDMX?

If you open "v002 RuttEtra Overview.qtz" in Quartz Composer (and connect a valid image to the input if you don't have an iSight or video camera connected), do you see something in the Viewer? If not, any messages in the Console?

When I see a black image after turning on the R/E effect, I bump up the height and luminosity, set the wireframe width, zoom, z-extrude, and X and Y scale to 1, put the wireframe mode on Full Image, set the X and Y position to 0, and set the vertex count to about 20.

Is there a simple step I am missing?

Wont work on tiger. Needs 10.5 at least, preferably latest 10.5.5 as it has updated GL drivers.

What hardware is your Mac Pro (list as much details in as organized a way as possible)? Does the Overview.qtz work? Did you read the readme on installation?

another strange thing which might be related to the alpha-channel-stuff i earlier mentioned:

i've made a qc-patch using vblur002 which works perfectly when running in quartz composer, when i run the same qc-patch in vdmx the blur is working kinda like a black mask :)

i will make a simplified qc-patch which reproduces this behavior and post it here, stay tuned!

i ran into something similar a while back... have you tried setting the clear patches to opaque black instead of transparent black (the default)?
if it moves, sync it!

for Leopard I am running 10.5.5 on a Mac Pro Tower, Dual Core 2.66 with 4 GB of RAM, The graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT, with 256 MB, it is just one year old. I have installed the .plugin file into the correct directory, but still the output is just black. Oh and VDMX is version b0.7.0.8. As far as working with the file in QC, I have to apologize I have just recently installed it, mainly to work with Vade's plugins, but I am still trying to get my head around it.

I think its the machine. Ive had similar reports from users with 7300's. For some reason its the only card to give me trouble. Im going to see if I can find a machine with a 7300 and try it. Thanks.

Vade, this is the exact thing I'm getting (remember that's what I sent you via pm over on vjforums) I'll try the other plugs and report whether these work. Maybe the dr. and I are making the same mistakes...

I am at a client who has a similar rig, 2.66 Mac Pro with 7300, so ill try it here and see if I can re-create. Thanks for your patience. I noticed the similarity, thomase, so we shall see. Thanks.

So I found the issue, its a bug in the driver for the 7300. I can get it to work if I disable line antialiasing for the geometry. I was able to get it working on a Mac Pro with a 7300 at a decent FPS without any glitching, by disabling

glHint(GL_LINE_SMOOTH_HINT, GL_NICEST);
glEnable(GL_LINE_SMOOTH);

on line 424 of the plugin code. Ill release an update which has antialiasing as a boolean option, by default off. Everyone else can enable it. That kind of sucks, cause the antialiasing makes a pretty decent visual difference. Ill also email the mac GL list about this and see if I am doing something very dumb.

Thanks, you are all not crazy, its just a weird edge case, and I dont get a chance to test on a lot of hardware.

For what its worth, ive tested some other plugins, and they seem to work, so it looks like its only the RE plugin where this comes to light. It might be a bug with drawing from VBOs with lines. I can get it to do it in an apple developer example, so I dont know if its just me...

Thanks,

I tested v002MotionBlur, v002 Blur, v002ZoomBlur, v002RuttEtra on my machine and they all have the same effect when turning on in vdmx. A black mask as output:(
msa_Quad Warp.qtz e.g. placed in the same folder is working fine!

VDMX5_b7.0.8

Mac Pro Quad-Core
2.8 GHz
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT
