VDMX + MadMapper performance issues.

Postby infectedspleen » Sat Feb 04, 2012 11:14 am

Hi all,

Wondering if any has any advice. When we use Modul8 + MadMapper on a Mac Pro 4.1 with a Matrox TH2G Digital DP + Duallink DVI adapter. The setup is swish and never have any problems in regards to speed and performance.

If we use the same hardware and run VDMX + MadMapper. The system grinds to a halt and is very slow. Even when using one low res clip in VDMX.

This is very strange and I can't seem to solve the issue. I now I'm missing something.
VDMX is running on default setting.

Any help would be great.

Thank you.

Sounds a bit weird - could you send a bug report (via the help menu) so we can get a look at your full system specs?

anything new in this case?
i've bought a TH2G DP and need some advice. i'm considering to buy DP-mDP adapters
http://estore.circuitassembly.com/produ ... Cable.html
or
http://www.tvc-mall.com/details/Mini-Di ... M-MAC-869/
instead of having to buy both DP-VGA and eventually DP-DVI. then i can use the mDP-VGA and mDP-DVIs that i already have a lot of.
are there issues in going this way? i use a MBP8,3
MBP 4*2.2GHz i7 512GB SSD 16GB RAM 6750M

i am not using a triplehead but a dualhead and i have never had any problems with vdmx and madmapper. VDMX signal is a syphon output so there should not be a problem. Check your canvas size in vdmx and madmapper

Yea, this workflow grinds to a halt when you're total canvas size is too big. I think Syphon's limit is something like 36000 pixels wide.. So even though your TH2go can support 5k pixels wide, syphon can't. I've hit this before. Try lower resolutions first. Anton mentioned that this is a limit of the GPU..

I also found Matrox's help to be pretty good. They answer the phone.

Also in VDMX, turn on "skip canvas rendering" in the prefs. This saves up a bit of the GPU.
